Delegates of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association have reelected Richard G. Thissen as national president and Jon Dowie as national secretary/treasurer.
Both Thissen and Dowie will serve their second two-year terms for the organization, a 220,000-member nonprofit formed in 1921 to advise and advocate in support of earned benefits and retirement regulations for federal employees, retirees and their survivors.
The election took place in Reno, Nevada, at NARFE’s 34th Biennial National Convention. Thissen’s nearly 30 years in federal service as a civilian working for the Army and Dowie’s experience as a CPA and chief financial officer, among other positions, help inform their efforts to support NARFE’s legislative agenda representing nearly 5 million current and future federal annuitants, spouses and survivors.
“NARFE has been a strong advocate for federal employees and retirees for 95 years. I am excited to have this opportunity to lead the association as we continue to fight on behalf of our nation’s active and retired civil servants,” said Thissen in an association press release. “I know we will have challenging days ahead. I pledge to do all that I can as NARFE national president to safeguard the compensation and benefits our federal employees and annuitants have earned through their unwavering service to the American people.”
