Nominations for the 2017 Presidential Rank Awards program are currently being accepted, according to a memorandum by Beth Cobert, acting director of the Office of Personnel Management.
These awards, established in 1978, recognize career members of the Senior Executive Service that are considered to demonstrate a sustained commitment to public service, technical and/or scientific innovation, agency effectiveness and the mission of the federal government.
“To ensure the government sustains a first-class federal workforce, the administration will continue to invest in civil service leadership, including recognizing and rewarding excellence in performance in a manner that also strengthens executive accountability,” Cobert said in the memo. “In this way, we will significantly improve the federal government’s ability to serve the American people.”
The deadline for nominations is Jan. 6, 2017. Agency heads are expected to ensure candidates are rigorously vetted to meet personal and professional standards and to establish the appropriate number of qualified nominees.
